This new school caters for a group of children for whom little or no other ideal provision exists at present, either within the maintained or the private sector. It is aimed at those children who find main-stream schooling a real struggle, but for whom current special school provision is inappropriate. It is a mixed, secondary school for children from 12 to 18. Its capacity is 44. Children come on the basis of educational need, and are either independently funded, or funded by Local Education Authorities. The aim is that the children who come to this school will be capable, on completing their education, of 'making it' in the outside world and being able to cope with college and, ultimately, independent living.
