About

Innerpeffray Library was established in 1680 by David Drummond 3rd Lord Madertie, to give access to all the knowledge there was in History, Geography, Religion, Philosophy & practical matters such as bee-keeping or herbal medicine for the benefit of the whole community. He founded a school at the same time. Thus scholars and everyone (27 trades are mentioned in the borrowing book between 1747 and 1800) would have access free of charge. We continue this (but ask £2.50 a head) and welcome individuals or groups to enjoy the environs, the architecture and the books.
