The aims of Active schools in North Ayrshire are to: increase the range, number and regularity of sustainable extra curricular opportunities, eEstablish / develop a varity of school / community links and pathways, support Active playgrounds, support Active travel, increase the number of and expertise of volunteers/coaches working in schools, monitor levels of activity and the impact on children & young people and develop the TOPS and Class Moves programmes The strategic background to the Active Schools Programme comes from the Report of the scottish Executive's Physical Activity Task Force:- "lets make scotland more active" - which found that levels of physical inactivity in Scotland were increasing, which is likley to lead to serious health issues in the future.
