To relieve the loneliness of elderly people on the basis of a small group outing once a month on a Sunday afternoon in a volunteers car to tea in a volunteer hosts home. Abefriending organisation for the most lonely and isolated in our communities, those who have little social contact. We specialise in a relaxed happy social experience in a domestic setting which is often more acceptable to this group than more institutionalised events. Alocal grioup consists of a volunteer coordinator, 2-4 volunteer drivers, 12 volunteer hosts and 6-10 elderly persons. The same group meets each month so there is the opportunity for the elderly to make new friends. Loneliness in old age is a very debiliatating condition and it is now well recognised that it is closely linked to ill health, and the simple service we offer is very effective in relieving this and has a significant impact on the quality or llife of this vulnerable group.
