Capability Scotland is in partnership with NHSD&G and D&G Council to provide services to people aged 16 to 65 who live with the effects of physical impairment in D&G. Capability Scotland's remit within this partnership is to promote access to leisure, education and employment. There are services based in Dumfries, Thornhill (for Upper Nithsdale), Annan (Annandale/Eskdale), Castle Douglas (Stewartry) and, from early 2004, Newton Stewart (Wigtownshire). Volunteers can become involved in a wide range of ways, from 1:1 befriending to offering group tuition.
