When We Need You
From 01/06/2012 onwards
DAPL (Drug and Alcohol Project Limited) is a counselling service offering one to one counselling and other forms of support to anyone affected by their own or other's drug use. As a volunteer, you would work as part of the wider team. As a volunteer befriender, you would work one to one with a client who is requiring some support to access community facilities/activities or groups. Clients would be identified by project workers through assessment and review. This would identify the support required. The project worker will facilitate the initial introduction with the volunteer. A risk assessment will have been undertaken and you will work within DAPL's Lone Worker Policy.
DAPL's under 18s team is continuing to support young people and their families by providing confidential 1:1 counselling, information, support and advice. DAPL have recently recruited a Family Support Worker who is setting up groups throughout Fife to support anyone who is affected by substance misuse. The Cupar group currently takes place in the YMCA on Thursday mornings.
Skills & Experience
You will need good interpersonal skills, be supportive and encouraging, respect client autonomy, have non-discriminatory values.
DAPL offers a service across all areas of Fife. We would aim to offer the opportunity as close to your locality as possible depending on identified need of clients. At present DAPL has two offices, one in Leven and one in Kirkcaldy. Support will be given in the most convenient locality for the volunteer which might require travel by either supervisor or volunteer by mutual arrangement.
