About Opportunity

SCHR's Outreach programme includes giving talks to local history societies, other specialist groups and interested people e.g. Probus. Help is needed with contacts, preparation etc. They also need someone who can organise (themed) exhibitions and prepare accompanying notes. Another possibility is to organise oral history sessions/awareness groups. These are examples. The job would be adjusted to suit the individual's interest and skills.

About Scottish Church Heritage Research

The committee comprises people interested in the archaeology, architecture, buildings of all dates in the last 2000 years used for worship of any faith. We run conferences, meetings, training days for recording places of worship. This is part of the work to prepare a Gazetteer, with information, description, illustration and list of books for all sites and buildings. We have about 11,000 on a database now, from all over Scotland.

Skills & Experience

Interest in local history, guyildings; computer and camera skills (images); able to gather information and prepare notes; select images for exhibitions; interest in communicating skills/teaching.

Find out what skills person has; Computer skills - ask to find information, ask to type information provided; visit local church to discuss how we record. Training continues throughout.
