About Opportunity
There are a number of different volunteering opportunities within the new Perth & Kinross Credit Union. For example, you can help in a marketing role in your local community; you can help staff the Credit Union office in Perth or set up a local collection point in your own community; you can help by filling a supervisory committee or board member role; you can help with administrative tasks or delivering some financial education and information about the benefits of the credit union. The Credit Union is not yet formally constituted and therefore items such as payment of expenses to volunteers have not yet been formally considered. This will be a matter for the Volunteer Board to finalise in due course.

About Perth & Kinross Credit Union
A new initiative in Perth & Kinross is a 'live and work' credit union in the area - the first of its kind. Credit unions are used in over 95 countries worldwide, encouraging saving in a low-risk environment. Members own and operate credit unions, fostering community engagement and ensuring that funds are retained and circulated locally. To date, only employees from specific public sector organisations have been entitled to use a credit union. Establishing a 'live and work' credit union means that employees and residents across the entire area contribute to the prosperity of the community.
Skills & Experience
Because of the range of duties which will need to be covered we are looking for volunteers from across a range of experiences. Some experience of business might suit volunteers for a role on the Board or on the Supervisory Committee. Experience of dealing sympathetically with members of the general public would help with frontline duties in the Credit Union Office. Numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail would also be important in these roles. Knowledge of local community affairs would be helpful for those who might assist with broadcasting the presence of the new Credit Union and 'canvassing' for saving and borrowing members. In all the roles we would be hoping to have a commitment from volunteers and not simply a casual attitude to participation.
