About Opportunity
We are looking for a Mentor to attend sessions with young volunteers and the project coordinator in sheltered housing in Midlothian, to support younger volunteers and encourage tenants to take part in the organised activities. Volunteers will be trained as Befriending mentors, before attending local sheltered housing to support a group of younger volunteers. The sessions are delivered in social rooms at Sheltered Housing, and will include older people who are supported in their own homes in the local community. Through providing activities, the project aims to reduce social isolation, sustain active minds and increase a sense of belonging for the older people. It is hoped that the project will benefit both the young people and the tenants in the sheltered housing, by breaking down intergenerational barriers and misconceptions, and encouraging mutual respect between old and young people.
