Travel Training Buddy
When We Need You
From 16/01/2012 onwards
About Opportunity
Aberdeenshire Lead Scotland travel training buddies support disabled people and carers to learn the skills and knowledge they need to travel a journey independently. The journey is chosen by the learner; one that he/she will make regularly, e.g. to a learning centre. work placement, etc. We train volunteers to break the journey into skills and to support the learner to build up a record of how they are learning to make the journey. This gives the learner their own peronalised reference guide that they can refer back to. Every learner's journey is different as are his/her skills and abilities. Volunteering activities as a travel training buddy might include: journey planning, taking photo of the journey landmarks, looking at bus timetables, buddying the learner on the journey, asking questions to check the learner's understanding, etc. Please contact Val Smith, vsmith@lead.org.uk, 07768 917 504
