About Opportunity
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are interested in an exciting opportunity to help assist people with a learning disability in a gardening environmental therapy project. This is an exciting opportunity for people who enjoy working with people and who have a love of gardening and/ or the great outdoors! The Thomas Fortune Work Centre, a training for employment project offering 70 full time placements to people with learning disability, has been working to develop a gardening project that provides training and horticultural therapy whilst rejuvenating and conserving the local environment. Operating from various sites in the Drumchapel/Yoker area, the gardening team works to bring new ideas and maintain local community green spaces and has just added a new greenhouse project for people whose mobility/concentration levels or interests are more suited to regular, less time intensive activities. **HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?** If you are interested in this opportunity please get in touch with us using the contact details on this page. Alternatively you can register your interest directly using the Register Interest facility. For further information on the gardening project, please visit our blog at www.thomasfortunegardening.wordpress.com Volunteers would be expected to support people with gardening activities and make a positive contribution to service users’ personal and vocational development. Full induction training and access to further training opportunities as well as travel expenses are provided.
