To apply you need to be age 25+, and have completed a minimum of 2 COSCA modules or have some similar training background*. All of our Counsellors receive regular free supervision which helps to ensure quality in practice and continued counsellor development. About Scottish Marriage Care
Scottish Marriage Care (SMC) is a family support service with 40 years experience in the specialist field of relationships. A registered charity, voluntary organisation and Investor in People, SMC provides professional relationship counselling and early intervention services through 21 local centres and counselling outlets in urban and rural locations across Scotland. Our services are for families, couples and individuals of all ages and stages. The FOCCUS Programme is offered for couples who are planning to get married. We also provide an extensive range of services for children and young people. SMC delivers its services free from judgement or discrimination of any kind.
Skills & Experience
* If you don't already have COSCA modules you may for example have done the FOCCUS training or if you are a nurse or a teacher you may have done some inservice training on listening and counseling skills which is also suitable. Experience of a marriage or long-term relationship of at least 7 years. Experience of negotiating difficulties and crisis within their marriage/relationship and life. A commitment to SMC's values/principles and roots in the Christian tradition. An interest in working with relationships and supporting marriage and family life. An ability to be self aware and use experience and feedback constructively. A willingness to accept change during training. A respect for and value of others and their differences. A commitment to anti-discriminatory practice. A capacity to cope with the professional and academic demands of the course. A commitment to ongoing supervision and continuing professional development.
Travel Details
The venue for Counselling is in the SMC Glasgow Centre at 196 Clyde Street, G1 4JY. The entrance is on Fox Street. It is located at the back of the St Enochs Centre, five minute walk from main train stations.

Need 7 years in an established relationship. Upper level more flexible.

Training and Induction Details
2 year university diploma delivered by SMC. Supervision on a ration of 1 hour supervision to 10 hours counselling 15 hours continuing professional development per year.
