About Opportunity
Advise the public on key issues such as benefits, housing, debt, consumer rights and employment. With training and support you can make a difference to their lives and your own. Enhance your job prospects or just meet people and help your community while gaining confidence and meeting new friends. Volunteers do not need to have any previous experience but should be committed to working within the CAB principles, particularly in terms of impartiality and confidentiality and equal opportunities. Advisers need good communication skills, be able to relate to all types of client and be willing to work as part of a team. After an initial period of training and shadowing volunteers will advise clients one to one on a variety of issues including debt, housing, benefits and consumer issues with back up from an experienced support team and online resources. This can also include form filling or telephoning agencies on behalf of clients and similar related tasks. Advisers can, with further training, also participate in representation work. A new session of training starts on 21st September - Wednesday and Thursday for 5 weeks, followed by some home study and shadowing at the bureau until confident enough to work independently. HOW TO GET INVOLVED: If you are interested in this opportunity please get in touch with us using the contact details on this page. Alternatively you can register your interest directly using the Register Interest facility. If you do not hear from us within 7 working days of enquiry, please contact the Volunteer Centre.
