About Opportunity

The Yard Adventure Centre, a warm, playful environment is looking for Volunteer Receptionists to meet and greet parents, carers and children into the main centre, ensuring they sign in and out of sessions, providing them with appropriate information on arrival, assisting them in completing forms for our records, and collecting relevant information for our use. The posts will also involve taking calls and logging messages, and basic administrative duties. The reception will be staffed initially for family drop in sessions on Fridays from 1pm-5pm, and Saturdays from 10am – 4pm (we would like if volunteers could work the four hour shift if possible – but a split shift can be arranged on a Saturday)

About The Yard Adventure Centre

The Yard is an adventure playground and centre, especially adapted to offer freeplay oppertunities to children and young people with additional support needs between the ages of 3 to 25 years old.

Staff and volunteers support children in accessing resources and exploring the varied and stimulating enviroment on offer. The enable children to confidentally approach new and challenging experiences with an element of risk.

Skills & Experience

Good people skills, an approachable, helpful manner, good communication/organisational skills, basic computing experience, confidence in taking and recording messages, reliability, experience of working with general public (children and families would be good, but not crucial).

The Yard Adventure Centre, Canonmills, 22 Eyre Place Lane, Edinburgh, EH3 5EH Buses to whereabouts of centre – Lothian 8,17, 23,27,36, expenses provided

Training and Induction Details

The reception volunteers will be offered The Yard Induction training required for all staff and volunteers to work in the Centre. Any other relevant inhouse or other training deemed suitable will be provided as appropriate also.
