About Opportunity
Mentor Scotland are looking for enthusiastic young people aged 16-26 who are interested in developing the skills and experience needed to work as a Development Officer or to aid applications for community education or social work or social care courses. Mentor provide volunteering opportunities in a wide range of areas from supporting our peer educators by developing and delivering training to assisting in the development of new projects and initiatives (from concept to funding application). We are looking for motivated enthusiastic people who have good social skills and a keen interest in gaining youth work and project development skills. Opportunities for Project Scotland volunteering placements will be available for the right candidates. Full training will be provided, no prior experience necessary.

About Mentor Scotland
The Mentor Foundation focusses on the prevention of drug misuse in its efforts to promote the health and well being of children and young people and to reduce damage to their lives. Mentor aims to support the effective use of human, financial and intellectual resources to achieve its goals. Mentor Scotland has been succesful in receiving funding from Comic Relief to develop an alcohol education project through the style of Peer Education.
Skills & Experience
Good communication skills, and interest in drug and alcohol issues or direct experience of drug and alcohol issues would be an advantage. Must be able to use word and have basic IT skills.
Travel Details
Our main office is based in Pilton, but you will be required to work in central Edinburgh and nationally. Travel costs are provided to cover all volunteering needs.
Requirements
Induction/Training, Informal Chat, Trial Period
Training and Induction Details
Volunteers will undertake an induction programme to familiarise themselves with the organisation. After this period they will shadow staff members until clear of their role. One to one support and supervision will be provided every 4 weeks or on request.
