About Opportunity
The Family Group is due to reopen in its new venue at Cornton Baptist Church and all the families will be provided with a hot lunch. The volunteer would be expected to buy, prepare and assist with serving and clearing away the lunch. It would be an additional benefit if the volunteer could provide a recipe and costing for the meal so that the families can take the recipe away to try at home.

About Home-Start (Stirling)
Home-Start is a local voluntary group which offers support, friendship and practical help to families with at least one child under 5 who are experiencing difficulties or suffering stress. Families are supported by home visiting volunteers who visit them on a regular basis.
Skills & Experience
Previous experience of working in catering would be an advantage but knowledge of good home cooking and cooking for a family on a budget would be sufficient. The Family Group has an allocated budget for lunch every week, therefore being able to work within this budget and numeracy skills would be required. Home-Start Stirling supports families from a range of different backgrounds so a non-judgemental attitude would be expected. The Family Group is held weekly (during term time and the occasional holiday) so it is important that the volunteer shows a high level of commitment to the group as the preparation of a healthy home-cooked lunch will become an intrinsic part of the group. Most of Home-Start Stirling's volunteers have had some parenting experience, although this would not be essential to this role it could be helpful. The Family Group is run by a coordinator and two group workers with additonal volunteers therefore it is vital that the volunteer can work effectively as part of the team. However, there are aspects of this role that the person would have to work unsupervised and make decisions. A sense of humour and a like for children as the Family Group caters for children aged 0 -5 years.
