About Opportunity

To provide support to patients during their stay in hospital and help improve their overall experience. Ward volunteers compliment the work of paid staff through offering assistance at mealtimes (as directed by staff) and helping to create a relaxed and friendly environment for patients through general befriending or activities. Training is provided on handling patients and necessary food/hygiene and health & safety issues.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for approximately 20 volunteers at the moment. Ability to work as a team-player, ability to communicate well with patients and willingness to undertake any necessary training as outlined by staff. Any previous experience of working in healthcare would be advantageous.

Travel Details

Currently opportunities are available in Ayr Hospital, Crosshouse and Ayrshire Central.

Restrictions

Must be reliable and committed, friendly and empathetic towards patients, willing to undertake training as required.

Application Form, Induction/Training, Police Check, References

Training and Induction Details

Induction covering all usual aspects i.e Health and Safety, Hand Hygiene, Moving & Handling, Violence & Aggression etc. Also training session from Dietitian, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist. Food hygiene training & ward induction.
