About Opportunity

A Section helper will provide support to all Officers in charge by taking activities and help run them. A helper in the Anchor section will most likely: Help take charge of a game(s), go on day trips, possibly take charge of a cooking class etc. The values of being an Anchor helper is working with 5-8 year olds and help them develop new skills along with having fun. A Helper in the Junior Section will most likely: Help towards taking Figure marching, help take charge of activities such as relay games, art/crafts and also have the opportunity to attend a camp. A Helper in the Company Section will most likely: Help towards doing Drill, work with young people to achieve their badges by doing badge work (e.g. learn about poverty) and also help with game(s). Giving just one hour a week could make a huge difference.

Shortened object of the Boys Brigade: the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Discipline and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.

Skills & Experience

Interests/Hobbies: Cooking/baking, Craft, Outdoor sports, Hiking/Trekking, Fitness. Skills/Experience: Event planning, Youth Work, Play work, Activity instructor, First aider. All above Interests/Hobbies & Skills/Experience are not essential, however it would be an advantage for us.

Training and Induction Details

We will require the volunteer to come in for an informal chat to describe the roll in more detail and thereafter ask them to fill out a Disclosure Scotland Form. Once all forms are completed and returned the volunteer can do other BB training if they wish

We only provide travel expenses if the volunteer takes a few boys in their own car to an event or activity centre such as our annual camp.

Frequency & Commitment

We run our sections from September to May and the summer programme from May to September (this includes our annual summer camp in July).

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
