'Sooty' Charity Box Collector
When We Need You
From 27/06/2011 onwards
About Opportunity
Make a difference in your local community by ensuring money donated by the public into our iconic Sooty boxes is collected on a regular basis from local shops, pubs and leisure centres. The sooner these donations are made available for the benefit of blind and partially sighted people the more efficient we can be in the delivery of our services.
Did you know that £700,000 was raised from loose change last year? It costs £1 to produce a Braille, large print or audio catalogue to tell blind and partially sighted people about the latest products to make life easier, and £15 to pay for an in-depth benefits check to ensure that a blind or partially sighted person is receiving all the help they are entitled to. The money you raise can help us provide these vital services.
What will I be doing?
- On a regular basis collect, accurately record and bank these donations.
- Alongside your fundraising manager you will agree a plan to regularly collect and bank money.
- Investigate new venues for Sooty and future opportunities for community fundraising.

About RNIB
RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) is the UK's leading charity offering information, support and advice to almost two million people with sight loss. As a membership organisation we are dedicated to delivering services our members need and campaigning for their civil and welfare rights. We support children and adults with sight loss to live full and independent lives. Volunteers work with us to support blind and partially sighted people in a variety of locations across the UK. We have over 100 different volunteering roles available which can be done from home, based at an RNIB Group office or out and about in the community. Volunteering with us means that you will help even more blind and partially sighted people lead full and independent lives.
