About Opportunity
We are looking for volunteer mentors to support our work in a thriving community garden project. If you have green fingers we’d love your help with the busy growing season ahead! We are looking for volunteers to support activities in our community garden. As part of a team of staff and volunteers you would help with a range of activities on-site including market gardening, wildlife gardening, growing herbs and ornamentals, composting and general maintenance of the gardens. Some experience of allotment gardening or vegetable growing is essential. Your role will involve working alongside volunteers in a supportive capacity and co-ordinating their activities. As such, experience in working with vulnerable adults or some supervisory experience (voluntary or paid) is desirable. About The Coach House Trust
Alderman Rd Community Gardens aims to increase volunteering & training opportunities to those experiencing economic & social exclusion. The project works with individuals who have experienced problems with mental ill health, addictions, long term unemployment & asylum seekers. We offer horticultural training (informal), workshops & the opportunity to participate in many aspects of gardening & landscaping, on & off site, in our market garden & allotment. We aim to support individuals to improve their skills profile, employability & confidence, & provide a safe & supportive environment where they can socialise & work with other local people.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for someone who is reliable, friendly and with good communication and interpersonal skills. We would like volunteers with some experience of vegetable/allotment gardening. Experience (paid or voluntary) of working in a supportive role with vulnerable adults would be helpful, though not essential. Training will be provided.
Travel Details
Alderman Rd Community Gardens 245a Alderman Rd, Glasgow, G13 3AY The gardens are in the Knightswood area of Glasgow. Travel by low-level train from either Queen St or Central Station to Scotstounhill. The train takes about 15mins. No.9 bus to junction at Alderman Rd or buses 44 or 66 to junction at Lincoln Avenue. The walk from the bus stop is around ten minutes. More detailed travel information can be provided on request.
