About Opportunity
Scottish Detainee Visitors provides practical, social and emotional support to individuals being detained under the UK Immigration Act in Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre. Through visiting we aim to alleviate feelings of isolation and stress. We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers with relevant community languages such as: Arabic, Farsi, Mandarin, Pashto, Swahili, Tigrinya, Urdu. The next Recruitment and Induction Day is on Saturday 7th July, and then on Saturday 13th October. The volunteering role, in addition to the focus of providing practical, social and emotional support to detainees, also includes: • Following up issues raised at visits in a timely fashion and keeping detainees and other visitors informed of progress. • Participating in the rota system of visits along with other visitors. • Keeping regular written records of visits in line with Scottish Detainee Visitors’ confidentiality policy. • Notifying and discussing with the Coordinator any concerns or difficulties regarding any aspect of visiting or detainees. • Adhering to the rules and regulations regarding visiting as set out by Dungavel Removal Centre. • Attending and contributing to visitor updates, training sessions and annual general meetings. • Contributing to the fundraising activities of the organisation and attend fundraising events. *HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?* If you're interested in this opportunity please get in touch with us using the contact details on this page. About Scottish Detainee Visitors
To relieve the conditions of stress and isolation of detainees who are suffereing hardship caused by detention at Dungavel Removal Centre. To offer emotional, social and practical support to Dungavel detainees through a befriending and visiting service.

Travel Details
Dungavel IRC, Strathaven. We have a rota system and go by car – one visitor will drive each visit. Visits take place on Monday and Thursday evenings, and also once a month at weekends.

Training and Induction Details
Full day Induction Day before the person starts to visit, then ongoing training at a Visitor Update one evening every six weeks. The coordinator is also contactable 3 days a week for support.
