About Opportunity
The VI Support Group meets once a month in the Red Cross Centre in George Street and has around 12 members. The group has been running for several years with members organising the meetings. They are not so able to do this now and would appreciate someone to take over the practical tasks of running their meetings. They are a lively group and may want to expand the activities of the group if someone was able to assist them. The Sensory Impairment team staff would be willing to offer training for volunteers in how to support people with visual impairments and occasionally attend the meetings if required.

The group enables people to get together to support on another and also invites speakers to attend to give information about issues relevant to visual impairment. The group would benefit greatly from assistance with organising the meetings (eg. writing to invite speakers, making tea/coffee at the meetings, setting up the hall, possible fund raising for events the group might attend etc).
Skills & Experience
Patience, interest and experience in working with older people would be beneficial particularly with sensory impairments, a sense of humour and ability to organise events/meetings.
