Cairngorms Health Walk Leader
When We Need You
From 20/02/2012 onwards
About Opportunity
Walking is one of the easiest activities to participate in as it does not require any specialist equipment, it can easily be adapted to fit your lifestyle....and it's free. There are many people who would like to walk more, but fear the humility of joining a walking group and then not being able to make the pace or the distance. As a volunteer walk leader you will lead your group on local short walks that suit their ability and offer support and motivation to those who need it. Walking with a group not only helps people to become fitter, it can improve their mental health and leave them with a general feeling of well being. It isn't an opportunity without challenges and you will need to be patient and flexiible, but the rewards are many as you see how this simple activity can improve and enrich people's lives
About Cairmgorms Outdoor Access Trust
The Cairngorms Outdoor Access Trust (COAT) is developing community led health walks in the Cairngorms National Park, through a project started in 2005. A Health Walk is a short, safe, local, led walk targeted at people who would benefit from increasing their physical activity. The weekly walks last 30-60 minutes and are led by trained volunteers from the local community. The aim of Health Walks is to promote and encourage physical activity in a safe, social way and get people walking more as a step to increasing the activity levels.
Walking has plenty of benefits for everyone. OOur Health walks are op-en to all, so as well as benefiting those suffering or recovering from an illness or medical condition, they are also of benefit to those who have an issue with weight, are feeling lonely or isolated, or simply want to explore some new walks with the company of others.
