Business mentor- Explore Enterprise Programme
When We Need You
From 06/10/2010 onwards
About Opportunity
The Enterprise Programme supports unemployed 18 to 30-year-olds interested in self employment to explore and test their ideas, write plans and start their own businesses or achieve alternative outcomes in employment, education, training or work. The role is about guidance. It involves helping young people to find and translate information, understand problems, identify solutions and implement action plans. It is not about you providing solutions, but guiding young people to find their own. The role of a business mentor is to develop good working relationships with these young people over a period of time to help them develop their businesses whilst also building their confidence and skills. Young people can face many challenges, both business and personal, for example, relating to their marketing strategy or financial records, housing, childcare or benefits. They may also need support to access alternative goals if their business ceases to trade. Mentors must be prepared to support young people to address the full variety of these potential issues. Mentors may need to take the lead of the relationship when it comes to arranging meetings and mentors will need to keep The Prince’s Trust informed of progress and/or difficulties.
