About Opportunity

Significantly impact on the life of an adult whose limited literacy or English language skill is a problem in their everyday life. Encourage and support adult learners by: Helping them develop confidence and positive attitude about learning; Respecting them and involving them in decisions about the learning process; Working with Senior Literacy Tutors and adult learners in selecting materials and approaches that are suitable for the learner's ability and needs; Offering support and praise; Meeting regularly and puctually. Where possible, skills are taught in a way that relates to the day-to-day life of learners with individualised learning plans. Many learners already have basic skills but need help to polish them, some need to learn from scratch and others need more in-depth specialist help. Volunteers may support our Literacy Tutors in a group or offer one-to-one support.
