About Opportunity
The volunteer will work with the technical services department to maintain the museum site. It is a varied postition with opportunties to get involved in helping to preserve historic parts of the colliery such as the winding engine and large objects store. The site is large so there's always a lot of work to be done both inside and out. We have a large garden at the museum and an ongoing programme to develop and maintain it so volunteers with an interest in gardening would be most welcome. Mining knowledge is not essential, all that's required is an interest in helping the museum preserve an important part of Scotland's industrial history. The museum has a dedicated team of volunteers who help out in many areas of the museum including curatorial and library work, answering enquiries, gardening and maintenance.
