Speaking Out Speaker
When We Need You
From 07/06/2011 onwards
About Opportunity
You will create your own opportunities, speaking to groups within your local community while also responding to requests sent into head office. You will encourage audiences to support Save the Children in ways that are appropriate to them. In return we’ll give you the support you need: All new volunteer speakers receive training on Save the Children’s work, delivering talks, and engaging new supporters. You will be supported by a volunteer Speaking Out Co-ordinator who has responsibility for the personal support of speakers in their team. Where there is no volunteer co-ordinator, you will be supported by a member of the regional Community Fundraising team. We’ll give you great resources to help you with your talks, plus regular up-to-date information on our programme work and fundraising initiatives via a dedicated volunteer website. HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED? You should contact us ideally by telephone, write to us or email [using the contact details on the right/select the APPLY! button]. If you do not receive a response within [7] working days, please contact the Volunteer Centre. [The next step is to make arrangements for an application form to be sent by email or post.] It generally takes around [4 – 6 weeks] after you contact us to get you started.

About Save the Children UK
Save the Children is the world’s independent children’s rights organisation. We’re outraged that millions of children are still denied proper healthcare, food, education and protection and we’re determined to change that.
Skills & Experience
Volunteers will need to feel confident speaking to a variety of audiences. They will need excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to research areas of Save the Children’s work in order to put together engaging presentations. We encourage speakers to arrange their own talks within their local communities, so volunteers will also need to feel confident in making these approaches.
