About Opportunity
We are looking for new volunteers both male and female to help restart our Scout Troop. The Scout Troop will be part of an active Scout Group – together with Beavers (ages 6-8) and Cubs (ages 8-10) ensuring a regular stream of new entrants. We plan to meet regularly on a Friday evening, but will also take part in various activities involving other Scout Troops including Swimming and Camping Competitions, indoor football and “Unihoc”. The Troop had a reputation for going camping frequently during which time the youngsters learn how to fend for themselves, including pitching the tents, lighting wood fires, cooking etc. and we would like to get that back. Some of the time on Friday evenings is spent working on some outdoor skills. The main commitment needed is somebody who is going to be prepared to commit to regular attendance on a Friday evening: to get involved leading the youngsters, including introducing new games, learning and then teaching skills, encouraging the youngsters to develop and pursue their own interests etc.; and to contribute to the planning. For general information on the Scout Movement and becoming a Leader, see the website www.scouts.org.uk
