About Opportunity

Arthritis Care's information volunteers are all people who have arthritis themselves or live with someone who has arthritis. Using Arthritis Care's booklets they make sure that people have access to information about arthritis. Using their knowledge of a local area they identify and supply a range of outlets with information about arthritis and arthritis care. Volunteers may also choose to give a standard presentation to local groups. Volunteers anre tracked and supported by Arthritis Care staff and all expenses will be covered.

About Arthritis Care in Scotland

Arthritis Care is the UK's largest voluntary organisation working with and for all people with arthritis. We provide in-depth information on a wide range of issues. We run self-management and awareness courses, and provide local activity and support. We also campaign to help change attitudes and laws and to ensure people with arthritis have access to the treatments and services they need and deserve.

Skills & Experience

Volunteers believe in the importance of information to enable people to manage their arthritis. They are enthusiastic and can talk to a variety of people and professionals.

Travel Details

The volunteer, in consultation with Arthritis Care staff, identifies the area they wish to cover. They arrange their own transport, and expenses are covered.

Restrictions

Volunteers have arthritis themselves, or live with or care for someone who has arthritis.

Training and Induction Details

We offer a one day induction event, one local and one national training day per year, plus ad-hoc support (mainly telephone) as required.

Expenses Detail

Volunteers are offered a £50 float to cover costs incurred. This must be repaid when the volunteer resigns. Volunteers submit monthly expenses claims (using a form), which are normally paid withing 3 weeks. Current mileage rate is 40p per mile.
