About Opportunity

Ault Basic Education (ABE) is part of the community learning and leisure services of the Highland Council and offers help with literacy, numeracy and essential skills. The service also helps those who wish to learn English as a second language. Tuition is mostly on a one-to-one basis and is informal and confidential. Small groups are taught where appropriate.

About Adult Basic Education

Privide free, confidential tuition on a one-to-one or small group basis. It helps people improve their literacy, numeracy and information skills and encourages lifelong learning

Skills & Experience

A good standard of literacy and numeracy, although no formal qualifgications are required. Good listener Discreet and reliable

Travel Details

Tuition takes place at times and places which are approved by ABE and mutually convenient for learners and tutors. Arrangements are flexible and the tutor has a large degree of control over them

Restrictions

Adult learners feel more comfortable with adult tutors and respond more fully to them

Training and Induction Details

30 hour training course with accreditation available. Provides a broad pictureof Adult literacies today, awareness raising and 'how to tutor' sessions in reading, writing, arithmatic, IT skills and tutoring English as a foreign language.
