About Opportunity
Families are referred by health visitors, social workers & other caring agencies. Reasons for referral are many & varied and the focus of the support from a volunteer is individualised for each family once a week for 2 hours, perhaps accompany some of the family on an outing, be a sympathetic listener, encourage parents in their efforts to be good parents, respond & talk to the children by playing with them, reading to them and enjoying outings with them. About Home Link Family Support
Home Link offers practical and emotional support to families who are under stress or experiencing difficulties. All families have at least one child under five. They are usually referred to us by Health Visitors/Social Workers who see the need for reliable, sustainable, low-key support by a Home Link befriender.

Travel Details
Home Link offers support to families in South East and South West Edinburgh and all of Midlothian. A new befriender is introduced to their family by their project worker. The befriending visit starts with the befriender going to the family's home. Volunteer expenses (transportation, outing costs) are paid monthly.

Training and Induction Details
Befriender Induction Training courses are offered three times per year. Courses are either 6-weekly with 3 hour sessions, or 3 Saturdays with 6 hour sessions.

Expenses Detail
Travel expenses (mileage or bus fares) can be claimed for each visit to a family. Phone usage is reimbursable as well and a contribution of £5/hour is available towards the cost of childcare expenses.
