About Opportunity

We run specialist day care in Dumfries, Ecclefechan, Castle Douglas and Sanquhar and support a day care service in Langholm. Day care runs from 10am until 3pm Monday to Friday. It caters for a maximum of 10 people with dementia and aims to build on such individual's strengths. The days are enjoyable with many varied activities on offer. Volunteers are an important part of the team as their support, knowledge and friendship help to make the day enjoyable for all.

About Alzheimer Scotland Action on Dementia

We are a voluntary organisation which exists to help people with dementia and their carers. We have a network of branches and projects around Scotland providing services such as home support, day centres, support groups, outreach support and information and advice. The Dumfries and Galloway Project provides a range of services throughout the area.

Travel Details

Dumfries, Annan, Castle Douglas, Sanquhar and Langholm. For all services except Langholm volunteer expenses will be paid for - usually at public transport rates. Lunch is provided.

Training and Induction Details

Written information is given prior to starting - induction given on starting 2 day training course on dementia given within the first few months. Support is given with day care organiser.
