About Opportunity

Volunteers all do training in boat handling, sea survival and first aid. All volunteers are qualified to administer oxygen. Volunteers can be involved in maintaining and repairing the boat and Landrover. Volunteers are also expected to join in fund-raising activiites. Armed with a first class training, volunteers get the satisfaction of being part of a highly motivated and skilled local rescue team.

About Port William Inshore Rescue Service Ltd

To maintain to as high a standard as possible an inshore rescue service to cover Luce Bay and Wig Bay. Occasionally work for the police. All callouts are governed by the Maritime Coastguard Agency.

Skills & Experience

Volunteers should feel comfortable in a boat, are fit and healthy and living in the Port William area.

Travel Details

In 2002 there were six callouts. Volunteers are on call (via a paper system) and meet at the boat shed in Port William. Training is once a fortnight on a Tuesday night.

Training and Induction Details

Fortnightly training on all aspects of boat maintenance, rescue training and first air. All volunteers are required to attend training on a regular basis.
