About Opportunity

Volunteers are matched with an individual child. They take the child out to activities they enjoy and offer them the chance to chat if they wish. As well as being fun for the child, it also gives a break to the parents.

About Positive Help

Positive Help offers practical help to people living with HIV in Edinburgh and the Lothians. The help is given by a team of trained, supported and supervised volunteers. The services provided include: befriending for young people; home support (cleaning, washing and ironing, cooking and gardening); and a transport service.

Skills & Experience

Minimum age of 18 years. No experience is needed as training is provided.

Travel Details

Volunteers pick up the child from their home, take them out, and then take them home again. Volunteers can use their car if they have one, or can travel by public transport.

Training and Induction Details

Positive Help offers a comprehensive training. Ongoing support, regular supervision and additional training days are also provided through your volunteering.

Expenses Detail

All expenses, including travel expenses, are reimbursed to volunteers. Car users are paid a mileage rate of 40p per mile. Expenses are paid monthly.

Frequency & Commitment

We ask that all befrienders can volunteer for at least 6 months following completion of the training programme.
