About Opportunity

Advisors are given full training and support over a period of 12 weeks to offer advice in a wide range of subjects including benefits, housing, employment, debt, consumer and family matters. The training takes the form of one day a week classroom type learning and half a day a week of shadowing with an experienced advisor. Volunteers need to be confident in dealing with people both face to face and on the telephone. Volunteers will be asked to complete a short test on literacy and numeracy skills and undertake an informal interview and basic literacy/numeracy test prior to starting the training.

The organisation also exercises a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services both locally and nationally.

Training and Induction Details

Basic training course lasts 12 weeks (one day a week); on-going training consists of keeping abreast of legislation (monthly training day).
