About Opportunity
It is easy to label young people involved in offending as 'Neds' and justify their exclusion from opportunities and services. We need people prepared to meet a young person on a one to one basis to offer advice, support and encouragement and perhaps alter what they can achieve.

About NCH Scotland Mentoring Project
To target those young people identified through The Fast track process who live in the East and South of Ayrshire who are between 8 and 17 in order to bring about reduction in the level and pattern of offending and to reduce the likelihood of progress to residential/secure measures of care and progression to the Criminal Justice System.
Skills & Experience
There is no expectation that potential mentors will have any special skills or knowledge. Induction Training will be provided. We are looking for people who can relate to young people and draw on their own life experiences to encourage them.
Travel Details
Takes place all over East and South Ayrshire. Generally in a public place a cafe or venue relevant to the specific goal. A sports centre or club meeting place will endeavour to keep travelling distances to a minimum.

Training and Induction Details
30 hour induction training programme prior to matching young person. Individual support/supervision session with project co-ordinator every 2 months. Mentor support group meeting every 2 months [ongoing training included].

Expenses Detail
Travel activity and refreshment costs will be reimbursed. Expenses can be claimed weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. We prefer to reimburse by cheque but will arrange cash if preferred. Our expectation is that the volunteer use public transport.
