About Opportunity

Volunteers are placed within the Audiology / Hearing Aid Department at one of five Glasgow hospitals – Stobhill, Glasgow Royal, Southern General, Victoria or Gartnavel. Volunteers raise the profile of Deaf Connections to patients visiting the department and invite them to ask questions relating to deafness and hearing loss. Volunteers will provide information and advice in response to enquiries and sometimes refer people to specialist support services. Volunteers may also assist Audiology staff during busy periods. The vacancies are suitable for volunteers who use English as a first language and is suitable for hearing and hard of hearing people.

About Deaf Connections

Deaf Connections provide services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in the West of Scotland. These include health information and events, community care, youth services, lifelong learning classes and support groups. Our aim is to include Deaf and hard of hearing people, and ensure that they have the same equality in life as everyone else.

Skills & Experience

Prior knowledge of deafness & hearing loss is not necessary as training will be given. Should have good interpersonal skills (friendly approachable etc) and an ability to communicate with deaf/hard of hearing people (sign language skills not required).

Travel Details

Volunteers are placed to a suitable Audiology department in one of the five main Glasgow hospitals. We require 2/3 hours per week from our volunteers plus travel time.

Enhanced Disclosure Check & 2 References will be required.
