About Opportunity

Volunteers are required to provide an advocacy service for patients detained in the State Hospital, interviewing and supporting patients, obtaining information regarding patient rights and attending meetings.

About Patients Advocacy Service

The Patients Advocacy Service works in a unique environment in Scotland with some of the most vulnerable people within the mental health system. We aim to provide information, support and representation to as many of the patients living in the state hospital as possible

Skills & Experience

Communication skills, non-judgemental, respect confidentiality of patients, be able to empower individuals and accept that there will be close support and supervision.

Travel Details

Lanarkshire State Hospital, 30 miles South East of Glasgow. Dumfries and Galloway area.

Interview, Police Check, References

Training and Induction Details

A basic training course covering 6 modules (over 6 days), followed by ongoing training which includes a full security induction and a breakaway course (self-defence) as well as ongoing training
