About Opportunity

Practical conservation work Since the late 1980s, our Conservation Teams have built up considerable knowledge and experience in planning and undertaking conservation projects throughout Scotland. We have Teams located throughout the Central Belt, Tayside, Dumfries & Galloway and the Scottish Borders. Click here to see a map of these locations. We undertake a wide variety of conservation work - urban or rural, large or small, construction or maintenance - and offer free work experience and training in countryside conservation and skills to the unemployed. For more more details about our Conservation Teams, download our information leaflet. Alternatively, you can find out how to join or hire a Conservation Team below. Join a Team If you are currently unemployed and interested in improving your job prospects, you might wish to consider joining a Conservation Team. Participants generally enjoy working outdoors in the conservation sector, but the skills acquired are also applicable to different areas such as forestry and landscape gardening. Formal training is certificated by Lantra and ILA-approved, and all tools and equipment will be provided. Transport to and from worksites is also available. Typical projects include boundary work (drystane dyking, fencing), access work (paths, bridges, steps), habitat management and creation (tree planting, meadow cutting) and much, much more. Interested in joining a Conservation Team? Contact Peter Gilbert on 0131 312 4732, or e-mail pgilbert@swt.org.uk www.swt.org.uk
