About Opportunity

A volunteer advocate's work may include providing information on the options available to clients providing support and encouragement for them to speak for themselves, attending meetings, reviews and possibly tribunals where the client feels unable or uncomfortable in doing this for themselves. Full training and support will be provided.

About Children in Scotland

Advocacy Grampian aims to provide advocates for patients/carers and young people with addittional support needs within the education system to help them to access their rights under the new education Scotland act. 2004

Skills & Experience

An interest in additional support for learning. Empathy for clients. Self confidence and the ability to speak out on client's behalf. Ability to deal with education professionals and officials. A non -judgemental and open minded attitude.

Travel Details

At venues to be arranged between advocate and client. Training will take place at suitable venues. Own transport would be useful, but is not necessary. Travel costs will be reimbursed.

Application Form, Induction/Training, Informal Chat, Police Check, References, Trial Period

Training and Induction Details

Induction in advocacy skills & education plus self study pack for volunteers to complete. Regular supervision sessions plus regular training/group supervision meetings.
