About Opportunity

At first, work may include completing standard letters as instructed and possibly forwarding post. Thereafter, response to emails, some book keeping, minute taking at regular bi-monthly meetings and other management meetings. There may also be occasional team visits to schools, working with volunteers and developing role to promote improved awareness of DDA.

About Inverness Access Committee

The objects of the Association are to promote access to all buildings, areas and facilities in the Inverness area for disabled people and for the attainment of the foregoing and if it shall seem necessary or desirable, to promote, assist or oppose proposals for the use or development of the said buildings, areas and facilities.

(And it has other powers!!) The committee has worked to achieve improved access for disabled people in Inverness through careful, effective negotiation with local authorities, building owners, developers, architects and local organisations and has achieved significant improvements to disabled people's access in the community. It has also written reports.

Skills & Experience

Essential office skills, positive attitude to people with disabilities (mainly physical) organisational ability, willing to learn, reliable, able to work on own and as part of a team.

Travel Details

The new office base is within a Volunteer Sector Organisation building near Inverness College by Longman Road, Inverness. There are normally bi-monthly meetings at Cheshire House, Ness Walk, Inverness. Some work may be home based. Some other meetings are occasionally held at Shopmobility Highland at Eastgate or elsewhere. (Adults at risk opportunity may require application to Disclosure Scotland for Enhanced disclosure).

Training and Induction Details

Inverness Access Committee has a professional 3 year business plan with a one year work plan available. Guidance notes of administrative duties may be outlined with volunteer and IAC members.

This would be discussed with Committee. Reasonable public transport rates reimbursable by arrangement. Mileage rate starts at 30p per mile by agreement with office bearers.
