32 - Listener
When We Need You
From 01/09/2006 onwards
Our volunteers will be part of an organisation that listens to people in crisis, depressed or suicidal and helps them explore their feelings in the hope that, by doing this and supporting them, they will find a solution to their problem and thus feel they can carry on. It is a country-wide organisation which operates 24 hours, 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year. Full training is provided, Following the training, all new Samaritans have a mentor who supports them for as long as they need support. You will never be on duty alone and ongoing support and training is provided. There are also non-listening opportunities available such as fundraising, flling etc.
