About Opportunity
This opportunity offers volunteers the chance to make a real difference in the lives of the young people concerned and gain a tangible sense of satisfaction as a result. As well as this, volunteer befrienders have access to a range of training and development opportunities and tailored support from the Young Person’s Befriending Team. This can prove invaluable to those looking to pursue a career in a related sector such as care/support or youth work. Just as importantly, however, this opportunity is about having fun and gaining new experiences “I've gained experience and I know now what I want to do with my life. I have changed my career because I enjoy being a befriender so much." HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED? You should contact us ideally by telephone or email [using the contact details below/on the right OR select the REGISTER INTEREST button]. Phone lines are open M-Th 9.30-4.30, Fri 9.30-3.00 exc public hols. If you register via the web or leave a message, we aim to get back to you within 5 working days! The next steps - we'll arrange for you to come in for an informal application/interview. Volunteers must also complete foundation training which is around 18 hours and the PVG disclosure process; disclosures take around 4 – 6 weeks. (Disclosure/PVG scheme membership applications are generally completed at initial interview). Having criminal convictions will not automatically debar you from becoming a befriender with us – it would form part of the assessment we carry out on all volunteers.
