About Opportunity
It is an evidence based two day training course with the aim of improving the general awareness and understanding of mental health within the community. The course will teach the volunteer to: Give initial help to someone experiencing a mental health problem. Help to deal with a crisis situation or the first signs of a mental health problem. Guide people towards the appropriate help. Recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems including depression and anxiety. The course is designed to improve knowledge of mental health and reduce negative attitudes people may have heard about mental health. The volunteer will travel with passengers on community group outings and provide guidance and comfort.

We are an umbrella organisation which does not itself use volunteers but assist subscriber community transport groups to obtain volunteers

Travel Details
The course is fully expensed by ATF and has no outlay to the volunteer. All expenses are reimbursed. The course is over two days with transport to and from the venue provided. The course is delivered by SMHFA instructors and for dates and times you should contact the above phone number.

12 hour course Over two days. Ongoing training available as it comes up. Futher training available to drive mini bus if intrested. Full support from ATF with out of pocket expenses/travel.
