About Opportunity

We are looking for volunteers who can offer a few hours a week to join the established Advocacy team at the Argyll & Bute Hospital, Lochgilphead. We need volunteers to help to give patients information about advocacy and to help them to access the service. Volunteers will be given supervision and direction by a named advocacy worker and will have the support of an established team. Most of our volunteers already have some connection with or interest in mental health issues, and most mention a desire to tackle perceived injustices as a motivating factor in working with us.

About Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service

The Argyll & Bute Patients’ Independent Advocacy Project is part of the Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service. It exists to ensure that patients’ rights, needs and wishes are heard and respected. We support patients to get the information that they need to make choices, and help to enable patients to express their views about decisions affecting their care and treatment.

Skills & Experience

Good listener, able to putting the clients needs and wishes first, and used to working with clients on a one to one basis

Travel Details

Argyll & Bute Hospital, Lochgilphead. Regular bus service from Lochgilphead town centre to Mid Argyll Hospital, followed by 5 minute walk. Or own transport, free parking.

Training and Induction Details

Introduction to post duties, project staff, office and hospital environment. Regular support and supervision as agreed, ongoing training as appropriate

We pay transport costs by arrangement , usually on the same day as they are incurred. Childcare costs payable subject to arrangement.

Frequency & Commitment

Volunteers are required for a minimum of 2 hours per week and should be able to commit to at least 3 months.
