About Opportunity

Witness Service Volunteers are present in Courthouses to meet witnesses, both prosecution and defence, who have been cited to attend criminal trials at Sheriff and High Courts. They offer practical information about court proceedings, including, where possible/requested, a familiarisation visit to an empty courtroom, as well as providing a listening ear to any issues/worries that individual witnesses may have – trying to address these and/or referring people on to whatever appropriate person/agency that might exist. To help them with this task, Volunteers are provided with support and supervision and are managed by Victim Support Scotland staff.
