About Opportunity

Have you got experience of working with young people? Could you share stories, lead discussions and stir up debate? Would you like to help inspire young people to think globally? Through assemblies, presentations, games and workshops, volunteer teachers educate young people about development issues and the causes of poverty. They also inspire them to take action to make a difference. As a volunteer teacher with Christian Aid, you will have an opportunity to use and develop teaching and presentation skills. Christian Aid can offer: -induction, initial traininf and flexible volunteering opportunities -free resources -out of pocket expenses -ongoing training opportunities and occasional opportunities to meet our overseas partners.

About Christian Aid

The aim of Christian Aid is to expose the scandal of poverty, to help in practical ways to root it out from the world, and to challenge and change the systems that keep people poor. Christian Aid works in some of the world's poorest communities in more than 50 countries , wherever the need is greatest and regardless of religion.

-Experience of working with young people and the ability to engage with them -A high degree of professionalism, with lively and engaging presentation skills -The ability to work in sympathy with the aims of Christian Aid

Travel Details

Scotland-wide. Most volunteer teachers work with local schools in their area. Training usually takes place in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Volunteers should have some experience of working with young people, and will be subject to a disclosure check

Training and Induction Details

Volunteers will be given introductory training, then offered three training opportunities throughout the year to explore various aspects of Christian aids work in depth

Frequency & Commitment

No minimum, we encourage volunteers to aim for at least one visit a month. We would expect that any volunteer who undergoes training would be committed to pursuing teaching opportunities long term.
