About Opportunity
The volunteers will be creating a one-to-one non judgemental relationship that aims to encourage young people to move confidently through a range of new experiences. It is a process which involves an experienced adult and young person working together to achieve agreed goals. It is challenging and rewarding work. The volunteers will be meeting their appointed young person once a week for 2-3 hours. They will be working through a support plan and work together with the volunteer coordinator on the action plan and what programmes and exercises to use to work towards addressing agreed issues and topics. This may entail working at the Barnardo’s centre in the young person’s room doing issue based workshops with the young person or going on a fun outing to the cinema. All volunteers receive training from experienced staff as well as ongoing support from staff and fellow volunteers. Mentors will also have the opportunity to attend support group meetings. These meetings are a good opportunity for mentors to share ideas and experiences and discuss future plans. All out of pocket expenses are covered by the service. This is a chance to get out and have some fun and meet new people while contributing in a positive way to the life of a young person. HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED? You should contact us for an application pack ideally by email or by phone using the contact details on the right/select the APPLY! button. If you do not receive a response within 2 working days, please contact the Volunteer Centre. After submitting the application form there will be an induction day.
