About Opportunity

We are looking for volunteers to provide general information and advice on deafness and hearing loss to deaf and hard of hearing people and others visiting NHS Audiology departments in Glasgow. Volunteers will promote National, Regional and Local services and activities as well as answering questions on any aspect of deafness. At busy times, Volunteers may be asked to assist audiology staff in dispensing hearing aid batteries and carrying out basic hearing aid cleaning and checks. Volunteers will also help ensure that information resources in audiology centres are kept up to date. There are a number of vacancies - all are in daytime hours but not weekends. TRAINING A basic induction - Deaf Connections and other service providers offering services One day Communication Tactics and Deaf Awareness Half day Hearing Aids - Care and Maintenance Half day - Hearing aids, equipment and technology Additional training as needed or requested (subject to availability of courses and funding) Support from co-ordinator at Deaf Connections by phone, email, sms, fax or visit to location. Skills & Experience

Good interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with deaf and hard of hearing people. be able work with minimal supervision. Experience of deafness an advantage. must have a positive attitude to deafness and disability.

Travel Details

Volunteers can travel to their placement by public transport or by private car.
