About Opportunity

MECC needs volunteers to help us provide a culturally sensitive care package for older people who are frail, disabled and suffer from dementia. You need to speak URDU, PUNJABI or BENGALI so you can communicate with the clients who attend our Day Care Centre. We provide training for bilingual volunteers and when funding is available we may be able to eventually offer volunteers sessional work. HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED? You should contact us ideally by email or phone If you are interested in this opportunity please get in touch with us using the contact details on this page. Alternatively you can register your interest directly using the register Interest facility. If you do not receive a response within 7 working days, please contact the Volunteer Centre. [After a telephone call and submitting the application form there will be arrangements to meet fro an interview It generally takes around 4-6 weeks after you contact us to get you started.

About Multi-Cultural Elderly Care Centre

To promote the welfare of the older people in Glasgow, primarily for those from black & ethnic minority communities who are most discriminated against & disadvantaged, by networking with statutory or voluntary organisations in a common effort to improve health, alleviate poverty & enhance the quality of life for the older people within their communities.

Restrictions

No gender restrictions but volunteers tend to be assigned to work with clients of the same gender.

Training and Induction Details

Initially we provide induction training & will continue to support his/her ongoing training. Volunteers will work towards a SVQ level 2.
